E1:Thou, Je_sus Christ, didst man be_come/From death us to de_li_ver;/Thy pity_ing eye be_held our doom,/That we were lost for_e_ver;/Thou ga_vest hope in di_rest need,/When death and hell with gap_ing greed/Were rea_dy to de_vour us.
E2:Thou couldst not bear that Sa_tan's might/Had in its grasp en_slaved us:/In pi_ty thou didst for us fight,/And hast in mer_cy saved us./From heaven Thou cam'st for our re_lease,/To pur_chase our e_ter_nal peace,/By bit_ter death and suffer_ing.
E3:And Thou hast taught us in Thy Word/That faith shall life in_he_rit,/For Thou art mer_ci_ful, O Lord,/And sav'st us by Thy me_rit,/If we but simp_ly do be_lieve/That all Thy chil_dren shall re_ceive/The bless_ings Thou hast pro_mised.
E4:Our bro_ther Thou art now be_come/An ho_nor bey_ond mea_sure!/Thou wouldst our life with mer_cy crown,/And give us rich_est trea_sure./The world's con_tempt we need not fear,/God's Son is now our bro_ther dear:/What power can now des_troy us?
E5:All praise to Thee e_te_rnal_ly,/For all Thy gra_cious fa_vor;/We are God's chil_dren now with Thee,/Lord Je_sus Christ, our Sa_viour!/Well may we one and all re_joice,/And praise our God with heart and voice;/He is our gra_cious Fa_ther./
