E1:Once in roy_al Da_vid's ci_ty/stood a low_ly cat_tle shed,/where a moth_er laid her Ba_by/in a man_ger for his bed:/Ma_ry was that mo_ther mild,_ /Je_sus Christ, her lit_tle child.
E2:He came down to earth from heav_en/who is God and Lord of all,/and his shel_ter was a sta_ble,/and his cra_dle was a stall;/with the poor and mean and low_ly,/lived on earth our Sav_ior ho_ly.
E3:And, through all His wond_rous child_hood,/He would hon_or and o_bey,/Love and watch the low_ly mai_den,/In whose gen_tle arms He lay:/Chris_tian chil_dren all must be _/Mild, o_be_dient, good as He.
E4:For He is our child_hood's pat_tern;/Day by day, like us He grew;/He was lit_tle, weak and help_less,/Tears and smiles like us He knew;/And He feel_eth for our sad_ness,/And He shar_eth in our glad_ness.
E5:And our eyes at last shall see him,/through his own re_deem_ing love,/for that child, so dear and gen_tle,/is our Lord in heav'n a_bove,/and he leads his chil_dren on _/to the place where he is gone.
E6:Not in that poor, low_ly sta_ble/with the o_xen stand_ing by/we shall see him, but in hea_ven,/set at God's right hand on high./Then like stars his chil_dren crown_ed,/all in white, his praise will sound.
